OUR STORY

Tropical agriculture & climate change

Accelerating a Greener Future

Tropical agriculture is responsible for over 90% of tropical deforestation, and 72% of that comes from smallholder farmers. Climate change, deforestation, agriculture, and poverty are all tightly intertwined. To solve the climate crisis that we are collectively faced with, we need to grow with methods that sequester carbon, restore soil fertility and protect biodiversity, all while ensuring productivity for those who work the land.

Regenerative agriculture, and agroforestry, have the potential to play a huge role both for the climate and for its farmers. We are working towards a future where agriculture, the climate and industry can all thrive together.

Empowering farmers

Fostering Prosperity in Every Harvest

Our commitment to empowering farmers is at the core of our mission. We work closely with smallholder farmer cooperatives to ensure that their transition to regenerative practices is not only smooth but also rewarding. We provide expert agronomic assistance, fair compensation, and digital tools, all geared towards improving their livelihoods, and the productivity of their land.

Farmers also receive incentives at the time of purchase for growing regeneratively and fermenting a high quality cacao bean, while regenerative practices allow them to grow with less chemical inputs. We are levelling the playing field, and bringing new opportunities to smallholders.

Our journey

The RhizoSource Story

At RhizoSource, our journey began with a strong belief in technology’s power to drive positive change – and a trip to West Africa. Understanding the exposure of tropical farmers to climate change only strengthened our belief in the ability of regenerative agriculture to create impact.

Over the next few years, we plan to scale our work to transform cacao farming and tropical agriculture by connecting farmers and manufacturers, promoting sustainability, and fostering industry partnerships.

Founder

Jules Achard

Jules is an impact entrepreneur who has always been passionate about the potential of agriculture to create change. Having experienced issues along various parts of the food supply chain during his career, he founded RhizoSource out of a desire to contribute to solving the climate crisis by creating opportunities for smallholder farmers, who are often left behind.
